Underwater R&M Services
A wide range of underwater repair and maintenance services are provided by UMC (see www.umc-int.com). Founded in 1972, UMC joined V.Group in 2006 and currently services commercial shipping, naval ships and offshore assets.
UMC’s portfolio of services encompasses:
Underwater Maintenance:
Hull cleaning: UMC’s compact mini-pamper enables effective removal of mild or tenacious hull fouling from various coated surfaces including the latest low surface energy coatings currently in service.
Propeller polishing: UMC has developed a propeller-polishing tool to produce an industry standard surface finish of 0.5µ Ra. Because the cost of the underwater polish will only be a small proportion of the fuel savings, the most important factor to be considered by the customer is the quality of the polishing.
In-water surveys: class-approved equipment is optimized to match the prevailing underwater conditions by using CCTV and high resolution cameras that are sensitive to low light levels. We also have the ability to include CAD generated drawings.
Underwater Repair:
(Afloat) shell plating repairs: defective areas are repaired by the removal and replacement of shell plating beneath the waterline which are welded into position whilst the vessel is afloat.
(Afloat) stern seal repairs: stern seals are repaired or replaced while a vessel is afloat using an inflatable habitat to ensure a safe and dry environment for repair technicians. The habitat is suited to working on conventional and pod propulsion equipment.
(Afloat) propeller repairs: working in association with Subsea Propeller Incorporated, UMC divers repair damaged propellers including blade straightening, the detection of micro fractures and polishing.
Welding: UMC divers provide a range of underwater welding services including anode replacement, rope guard repairs, rudder repairs and the sealing of disused inlets and outlets.
Design and Consultancy
Engineering & project management: UMC’s multi-disciplined engineering consultancy team provides clients with bespoke solutions to underwater R&M projects which can be implemented by an associated team of experienced project managers.
Engineering design & manufacturing: specialist services include various design and build projects including cofferdam equipment, hull aperture blanks and customized cleaning equipment.
Acoustic cladding: the development, survey, servicing and repair of cladding systems
Equipment sales
UMC is able to supply specialist equipment including cleaning machines, hydraulic power packs and hull aperture blanks.
