A critical element of successful technical management is cost effective procurement of the miscellaneous store, spares and services consumed by vessels. The ability to get access to the most attractive prices on competitive terms for the major consumables is, therefore, a critical success factor.
As part of the Technical Management services offered by V.Ships, V.Ships Leisure and ITM, ship owning clients can enjoy access to the prices offered through the Marine Contracting Association (MARCAS).
MARCAS ( see www.marcas.org) negotiates on behalf of members and other users prices based on the aggregation of planned purchased volumes. These negotiations result in access to supply contracts with preferred suppliers covering some 40 major products and services. These include air time, lube oils, D&A testing, ropes and paints & chemicals. In addition, MARCAS also provides a dry dock facilitation service whereby support is provided to contract suppliers including pre- and post- support.
Currently some 900 vessels benefit from these negotiated contracts.
V.Ships is a member of MARCAS having joined in 2001 via the acquisition of Acomarit. The association’s current membership includes BP Shipping, Efshipping Co SA, Efnav Company Ltd, Eletson, Fouquet Sacop Group, Graig ship management ltd, Marenostrum, Medpool Ltd, Portunato and Stelmar Shipping Ltd.
